California directed to remove ‘disturbing gender ideology content’ from sex ed program

Palm Springs Desert Sun – An agency in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is directing that California remove all references to “gender ideology” in the federally funded Personal Responsibility Education Program, which provides for sexual health education to youth in the state.

The Administration for Children and Families sent a letter to a California Department of Public Health official on Friday, June 20, requiring the removal of “all gender ideology references in curricula and program materials” pertaining to California’s PREP within 60 days.

California PREP funds agencies in counties across the state with “the highest need for adolescent sexual health education and services,” and the services are “primarily” provided by community-based organizations and clinics as well as county health departments, county offices of education and county superintendents of schools, according to the California Department of Public Health.

The Administration for Children and Families had previously requested the state’s PREP materials for review and said it found “egregious content teaching young students that gender identity is distinct from biological sex and that boys can identify as girls.”

“The Trump administration will not tolerate the use of federal funds for programs that indoctrinate our children,” said Andrew Gradison, acting assistant secretary of the Administration for Children and Families, in a statement.

“The disturbing gender ideology content in California’s PREP materials is both unacceptable and well outside the program’s core purpose. ACF remains committed to radical transparency and providing accountability so that parents know what their children are being taught in schools.”

The California Department of Public Health did not immediately respond to the Desert Sun’s request for comment on the agency’s latest action, but in a statement provided via email later on June 20, a CDPH spokesperson confirmed the department had received the letter and was reviewing it …
